Australia XI overcame some hiccups and inched towards safety on the second day of their four-day warm-up match against Board President’s XI at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Friday.

Chasing the hosts’ mammoth 455, the visitors were 191/4 at close of play with rescue men Michael Hussey and Brad Haddin batting on 54 and 34 respectively.

The last recognised Aussie batsmen have so far added 63 runs for the fifth wicket but need to carry on the good work on Saturday if the world champions are to avoid the ignominy of following-on. Australia, with a pretty long tail to follow, still need 65 runs to make the home side bat again.

Putting to rest all the speculations regarding Shah Rukh Khan’s association with the city’s IPL team, CAB President Jagmohan Dalmiya on Saturday said the bollywood star was not disassociating himself from the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Some media reports had claimed that Khan was no more interested in owning the team and was trying to sell it off.

Terming his 30-minute meeting with the ‘King Khan’ as a “courtesy visit” by Khan, the former BCCI president said, “We are all happy that he came here. He told me that ‘we are not leaving Kolkata and are prepared to come back again.”

Before meeting with Dalmiya at the Eden Gardens, Khan had also said that he intended to stay with his IPL team.

“I am a Kolkatan from the day we bought Knight Riders,” the actor said.

Dalmiya further said they are ready to extend full support to bollywood star.

“If Shah Rukh comes one-and-half step forward, we will go three-fourth. There will be full cooperation from our side. It was a very friendly, very warm and very open talk. Certain things I don’t want to talk to you but our discussion was pretty general but not any individual items (ticket sales, arrangement etc).”

About the settlement of about Rs 7.5 crores with regard to the CAB expenses during the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League, Dalmiya said, “There are certain grey areas which have to be sorted out. If the approach is right then there’s always a way out. It was so nice of him to come here and discuss the things with us.”

The former CAB administration, led by Prasun Mukherjee, is yet to get about Rs 7.5 crores for variuos expenses it made during the 45-day extravaganza.

Episodes were shot earlier: Sreesanth - Speedster fit for Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, but unfit for team India duty

Eyebrows continue to be raised over Sreesanth being fit enough to scorch the dance floor in Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, yet being unfit for national duty.

The 25-year-old Kochi-based speedster has, however, clarified that the episodes (which began being telecast last week) were shot in May, before a strain on the left side kept him away from cricket.

The most recent injury, one learns, concerns the lower back. When? How? Nobody has a clue.

As for the clarification, Sreesanth gave it in Bangalore some 10 days ago when the Board’s chief administrative officer, Ratnakar Shetty, asked what many have been asking.

“We’ve gone by what he said when I wanted to know how come he’s fit to dance, but not fit enough to represent the country… I didn’t double check with the producers of the show, though,” Shetty told The Telegraph on Friday.

The Shetty-Sreesanth interaction took place at the National Cricket Academy.

Gifted and controversial, Sreesanth hasn’t played for Team India after the last Test at home (Kanpur), against South Africa, in April.

Since the side-strain injury, which occurred after the cash-oozing Indian Premier League, Sreesanth has missed the tri-series in Bangladesh (for which he’d been picked), the Asia Cup in Pakistan and the full tour of Sri Lanka, involving Tests and ODIs.

He won’t be seen in action in the first two Tests versus Australia too. After that, well, it’s anybody’s guess.

Intriguingly, when Sreesanth was taken out of the Bangladesh-bound squad, on June 7, the Board had announced he would recover in “two weeks.”

Months have passed.

Sreesanth, who made his India debut in the early days of the Greg Chappell era, turned out for semi-finalists Kings XI Punjab in the League — the tournament where Mumbai Indians’ Harbhajan Singh slapped him, in Mohali.

Both, however, feature in the Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena show.

Separately, of course.

Shetty, meanwhile, has been given an extended contract (six years instead of five) by the Board and, so, he’ll be resigning as a Wilson College professor of chemistry.

“I’d taken two years leave (from September 2006), when I got this appointment, but I’ll now end my innings as a professor,” he said.

Shetty, considered quite close to Sharad Pawar, is also the Mumbai Cricket Association treasurer. Pawar’s term as the Board president is over, but he’s still the Mumbai supremo.

Kolkata Knight Riders slumped to another defeat against Queensland Bulls, going down by 48 runs in the six-match Twenty20 series.

The win Wednesday gave Queensland an unassailable 4-1 advantage in the series.

The Bulls scored 7-163 before restricting the Indian tourists to 8-115.

Andrew Symonds, who was making a comeback with the series after his Darwin fiasco, continued his bad form with the bat.

The controversial all-rounder only made three - giving him just 14 runs in four innings in the series of friendly matches.

Temperature soared high during the India’s recent cricket tour of Australia but if we go by the words of dashing opening batsmen for Australia Mathew Hayden, the T20 cricket series organized by Indian Premier League( IPL) in India has almost nursed back the bitter wounds that created a lot of bitterness between the cricket teams of India and Australia.

Hayden is also of the opinion that such type of enmity hopefully will not come back to haunt the game of cricket.

In what will be seen as the first corporate sacking of Indian Premier League (IPL), Deccan Chargers on Monday removed VVS Laxman as captain and Robin Singh as coach of the team.

Chargers handed the captaincy reins to former Australian vice-captain Adam Gilchrist while another Australian Test player Darren Lehmann is the new coach.

Laxman and Singh were in the firing line as Deccan Chargers, despite boasting of a strong line-up, surprisingly finished at the bottom of the IPL standings, winning only two of their 14 matches.
